➡️On 16 May 2023, ESWET held a Conference, co-hosted by the European Committee of the Regions, gathering high-level speakers to discuss the role of Waste-to-Energy in tackling local challenges, helping achieve EU energy & sustainability goals, and showcase successful examples that already benefit EU citizens. Why❓ 🟢Because securing energy and materials in Europe is a strategic objective for the success of the green and sustainable transition. 🟢And Waste-to-Energy helps public authorities at regional level in Europe face a double challenge: achieve a circular waste management system while securing reliable, local, affordable, and partly renewable energy. This recording shows the the keynote speech by Mr. Siegfried Scholz (ESWET's President) and the first panel discussion, focused on Policymaking on WtE. FuelsEurope
In this new episode of our series “’Inside Renewable Fuels” we’ll explain what the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is about. Not easy to pronounce but we want to keep it simple for your understanding. This process is a series of chemical reactions that involve the conversion of hydrogen and carbon monoxide into liquid hydrocarbons by using a catalyst. In other words, it allows to transform any feedstock into a liquid fuel that will meet the required specifications to fuel a vehicle. E-fuels produced with electricity from renewable sources such as wind, solar or hydro, water and captured CO2 are one of the specific examples of what F&T can enable. Now learn about the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis with our latest Inside Renewable Fuels video above. #CleanFuelsforAll

Clean energy innovation steps up a gear in Brazil
31 May 2023
International Energy...
Long a major player in hydropower and biofuel technologies, Brazil is now seeking to expand into hydrogen and other low-emissions solutions. Brazil accounts for almost 7% of the planet’s renewable energy production – outpacing its 3% share of the global population and 2% share of global GDP – and has long been a leader in biofuels and hydropower technologies. The country is now seeking to expand its energy innovation into new technological areas: its recent National Hydrogen programme and Fuel of the Future programme both place research and development (R&D) among their core pillars. Helping governments spur R&D in cost-effective and practical clean energy technologies lies at the heart of the IEA’s mandate. For emerging and developing economies – and many other countries with shorter legacies of energy technology innovation – this requires not only simply increasing R&D spending but often also nurturing more supportive innovation systems. Innovation can help these nations position themselves in global clean energy technology value chains, thereby boosting economic growth and accelerating global efforts towards climate goals. The experiences of emerging and developing economies can also inform energy, innovation and climate policy worldwide. #energy #energytransitions #innovation #Brazil #technology

The International Energy Agency recently brought together over 120 policy makers and energy professionals from more than 40 countries at its energy efficiency training week in Paris to develop expertise in energy efficiency policy making and underline the important role it can play in emerging and developing economies. The Energy Efficiency Policy in Emerging Economies Training Week was held from 17 to 21 April at the IEA’s Paris headquarters. The IEA has been holding these week-long events since 2015, training more than 2,000 energy efficiency professionals from over 120 countries in total. The participants are primarily from government institutions and supporting organisations in emerging economies. The sessions are dedicated to sharing experiences and best practices for planning, implementing, and evaluating energy efficiency policies in emerging economies. By focusing on building policy-making capacity in these countries, the IEA aims to expand its community of energy efficiency practitioners that can implement effective policy, helping to unlock this potential. “All countries have different energy mixes, and different economic and social priorities, but one thing they all have in common is room to improve energy efficiency. It needs to be treated as the very first fuel, as it makes energy more affordable while supporting energy security and climate change objectives,” said IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol. “As the biggest opportunities to improve energy efficiency are in emerging and developing economies, they are the focus of our Energy Efficiency Policy Training Week, which has been going strong for many years now.” #energy #energytransitions #energyefficiency
