2022 Spain’s award-winning ERDF projects
24 Mar 2023
EUinmyRegion
The Spanish annual communication event on regional policy and European funds – Acto anual de política regional y fondos europeos en España – is hosted by the Spanish general secretary of European funds of the Ministry of Finance. It rewards the achievements and best communication practices of projects co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The ERDF invests in strengthening economic, social and territorial cohesion across European regions. The awards ceremony was held in Madrid on 29 November 2022. This year, the participants once again showed ‘Una manera de hacer Europa’ – A way to make Europe- with their diverse and innovative projects to build a better tomorrow for all European citizens. 12 projects were selected as finalists in 4 categories: regional, national administration, and local authority level, and European territorial cooperation. The selection criteria were how well the project communicated its activities to potential beneficiaries, its incorporation of innovative elements, its contribution to the resolution of a problem identified at territorial level, and consideration of the principles of equal opportunities, non-discrimination, social responsibility and environmental protection. All participants present physically or online voted for their favourite project in each category. Nadie Sin Su Ración Diaria (digitalization of the food donation system), Imagen Molecular de Alta Sensibilidad (a new positron emission tomography scanner), MOAI Labs (research and innovation to prevent loneliness of the elderly) and the urban gardens of Salamanca (revitalization of a degraded area) are the winner of this 2022 edition.

In 2022, all those seeking to shape a climate-resilient future for our cities and regions once again came together and took part in the discussion in Athens (Greece) on 14 and 15 September. The Forum kept its informative, open and interactive character and ‘Powerpoint-free’ format. Participant shared experiences and points of view on diverse topics, tackling existing challenges in local urban adaptation, while exploring potential solutions and opportunities for future collaboration. Connecting people across regions has never been more important. In 2020, global Internet traffic was estimated to be more than 3 zettabytes – the equivalent of 325 million households watching Netflix simultaneously, at all times. By 2022, these flows will be 1,000 times greater than in 2002, 20 years earlier. These data flows keep us informed, entertained and connected to work, friends, and family. They also provide increasingly important routes to access to key services – in retail, health and public support. Throughout the pandemic, these connections have been critical in keeping many jobs, sectors and services going. However, while urban communities flourish in the online world, too many rural areas remain digital deserts. You are not alone 🇺🇦🇪🇺 From Gdansk, I express on behalf of the European Committee of the Regions my message of solidarity to all Ukrainians who are fighting for European values. No matter what it takes or how long, we #StandWithUkraine. From the first day of Russia's full-scale invasion, the European Committee of the Regions stood by the Ukrainian people and local and regional authorities. Institutions like ours are an instrument to work for and achieve a better future for those people who had their hopes and lives shattered by this war. Gathering in Gdańsk has a special meaning, because of the date but also because of the location, as this city represents the fight for freedom and solidarity, for our common values. Thank you Mayor Dulkiewicz for hosting the European Committee of the Regions in your city.
