Overview Map + Hotels

Our qualification courses teach both the practical skills and the theoretical knowledge necessary for civil conflict management work at home and abroad. Course participants are taught specialist and project-related skills, general project work competencies, as well as useful social and team-working skills. The curriculum is based on current developments in the fields of conflict transformation, development aid and adult education and also draws heavily on the practical experiences of highly qualified trainers and advisors.

Successful participants qualify for the certification as “Peace and Conflict Consultant”. This qualification is an assurance that they are specially trained for project work in areas of conflict. In particular, the skills imparted in our qualification courses were chosen with the Civil Peace Service and other conflict-sensitive development aid projects in mind. So, depending on their prior experience, graduates are able to independently initiate, manage, monitor and develop projects, take on coordination roles beyond single projects, and/or work directly in the implementation of project activities.

This part-time course in civil conflict management will take place for the first time in 2011, in German. It builds on the participants’ existing practical experience and theoretical knowledge. Part of the course concept is also for the participants to apply the theory straight away in their current professional context.

An important component of the course is a practical project where the participants have the chance to apply what they have learned outside of the classroom. The aim is to observe what effects their own actions have in real situations. Back in the course after the project phase, participants will be asked to report on and reflect upon the experiences from this knowledge transfer.

In addition to the skills and knowledge learnt in our classic full-time formats, this course also imparts expertise and experience using online tools for communication and teamwork. Successful participants graduate from the course with the certification as “Peace and Conflict Consultant”.

  • The blended learning format of this course combines e-learning, residential and self-study phases in a methodologically meaningful way.
  • The classroom sessions are grouped together into residential phases that take place in Bonn. The online phases can be completed anywhere but our tutors still provide close support for the participants.
  • The weekly study time required during the online phases is about 8 hours. Participants are generally free to study when they want to.
  • All course activities, including the communication with participants and tutors, are organised and carried out in an easy-to-use way via our online learning platform.
