Building on two successful conferences in 2010 and 2011, and a preparatory Expert Seminar (March 2012), the Development Group (D Group) and Egmont – the Royal Institute for International Relations are holding an International High Level Energy Conference on 10 May 2012, in Brussels. Egmont Institute and the D Group aim at setting an intense debate and bringing together the views of the industry and other energy stakeholders with those of EU decision makers.
The key issue to be addressed is the EU transition towards a low carbon economy and the contribution of the energy sector to that goal – with a specific focus on the EU Energy Roadmap 2050, the necessary EU strategy and policy measures for the decarbonisation of the energy sector, as well as the successive steps in the agenda. The conference will discuss the following key questions: What are the core energy resources for the transition as well as the necessary infrastructures and breakthrough technologies? What levels of governance are required and what are both the responsibility and the contribution from the private sector?
The lectures of high-ranking representatives will be followed by in-depth discussions, which offer you the possibility to participate actively in the conference.
