Organised under the auspices of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and with the support of the European Diabetes Coalition (ECD), the meeting is aimed at developing policy recommendations in the areas of Prevention, Diagnosis, Management, Research and Education of Diabetes.
The EUDWG plenary meeting will be opened by John Dalli, Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy, and a representative of the Belgian Presidency and closed by Ms. Patricia Reilly from the Cabinet of Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science. The WHO will be represented by Zsuzsanna Jakab, Regional Director for Europe.
At the meeting, expert working groups will present their key findings and suggested actions in the five areas mentioned above. Their reports will form the main basis for the discussion and will result in the adoption of key policy recommendations towards an EU Strategy on Diabetes.
